Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan had a successful transformation from cricket to politics in 1995 and just in a span of 22 years he is now the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Cricket gives the fame and name to an individual which is ideal for landing into active politics. There have been several cases when a cricketer transformed himself to a politician post his retirement .But we also came across the cricketers who stayed in politics despite their active playing career like Sanath Jayasuriya but the former Sri Lankan great may be joined by another cricketer who will land in politics before his retirement from cricket.
Mashrafe Mortaza to contest in the elections
It has been confirmed that Bangladesh’s ODI captain will contest the upcoming election in the country from the ruling party, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The photograph of the honourable Prime Minister and Mortaza headlined the first page of Bangladesh’s news daily.
“We expect him to keep the balance between his playing career and politics. However, a word is yet to come from the present captain of the ODI team on his running for the Awami League but on active players, there has been no moratorium that has been placed on trying their hand at politics,” the party spokesperson was quoted as saying by Times Now.
Mortaza has been spot-on with his captaincy tactics that got a low lying Bangladesh into the finals of Asia Cup 2018 where they lost to India in a last over thriller. He would have been a much appreciated captain if he would have led other cricketing powers of the world.
