Royal Challengers Bangalore signed off the IPL 2019 with an emphatic win over much fancied Sunrisers Hyderabad to deny them the play-off spot. With this loss, SRH finish with 12 points in 14 games and they will have to rely on Mumbai Indians to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders to seal the fourth spot and qualify for the play-offs. KKR and SRH are currently tied at 12 points but the Dinesh Karthik led team has to win the encounter to claim 14 points to overthrow SRH from number four spot as the Kane Williamson led squad sits with much better net run rate and they will qualify if KKR loses the encounter.
SRH’s party was destroyed by a fierce striker in Shimron Hetmyer as the 22-year-old notched 75 runs off just 43 balls in pressure situation to take RCB home. Earlier in the match, RCB won the toss and asked SRH to bat first in the batting friendly conditions at M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. Wridhimann Saha and Martin Guptill gave a good start to the visiting team, but it was Kane Williamson’s brilliance of 70 from 43 balls to take the score to 175/7 at the end of 20 overs.
RCB failed to put up a good start as they lost Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers under 20 runs. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis had to return back to Australia in pursuit to the preparation for the world cup which brought Guyana lad Shimron Hetmyer into the team. The 22-year-old played four matches earlier for the franchise but failed to make a mark with 15 runs.
After losing key batsman in the chase, Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Singh Mann(65 off 48 balls) stitched a partnership of 144 runs from just 83 balls to take RCB to the drivers seat. After the departure of Hetmyer, the home team lost quick wickets which took the match to the last over where they needed run a ball for the victory. Umesh Yadav hit two consecutive fours to take RCB home with four balls remaining.
