Official day 6 of the Olympics was a mixed one for Indian athletes as Ticket collector from Pune division- Swapnil Kusale won bronze medal in men’s 50m rifle 3 positions to become the first man from the country to bag the medal in this shooting discipline to take India’s medal tally to 3 medals. While there was good news from the men’s discipline, India failed to qualify for the finals in the women’s event where experienced Anjum Moudgil and Sift Kaur Samra were in action.

The biggest heart break came from the badminton court as the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost their quarter finals clash against Tokyo games bronze medallist pair of Soh and Chia and ace boxer Nikhat Zareen lost her round of 16 match. Two times Olympic medallist PV Sindhu also lost her pre quarter final clash against WR 9 He Bing Jao of China in straight games.

The focus now shifts onto the official day 7th of the competition and the biggest onus will be on the mixed archery team to end the disappointment of the archers and win a medal. The sole badminton representative from India- Lakshya Sen will square off in his quarter final clash against Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan.
