3. Saina Nehwal Top 5 badminton players from India
Saina entered 2017 with maiden Malaysia open Grand prix Gold title. In august she was seeded 12th in World Badminton Championships at Glasgow. Nehwal again dug deep into her reservoir to eke out a 21-19 18-21 21-15 win over world No. 31 Kristy Gilmour of Scotland in the quaterfinal. However she lost in the semifinal in tight 3 setter to eventual winner Nozomi Okhuhara of Japan thus bagging bronze medal. This is Saina’s second consecutive medal at World Badminton Championship and a record breaking 7th consecutive quarterfinal. She then won the 82nd national badminton championship by beating P. V. Sindhu in the final. Saina moved her training center from Bangalore to Hyderabad and trained under Gopichand, which eventually got results for her.

Sindhu’s good run of form continued in 2017. The new poster girl of Indian badminton won the Indian open title by defeating Carolina Marin in straight games. Sindhu continued her domination in BWF World championships held at Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland. She bettered her medal by clinching silver this time only loosing to Nozomi Okuhara in the finals 19-21, 22-20, 20-22. Sindhu avenged her world championships loss to Okuhara by beating her in the final of the Victor Korea Open superseries, winning 22-20, 11-21,21-18. Top 5 badminton players from India
In August, she took charges as Deputy Collector in Krishna District in the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) office under the Revenue Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
