The top spot will be acquired by Indian Premier League, which is an inspiration for other sports leagues in India. On 13 September 2007, the BCCI announced the launch of a franchise-based Twenty20 cricket competition called Indian Premier League whose first season was slated to start in April 2008, in a “high-profile ceremony” in New Delhi. BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi, said to be the mastermind behind the idea of IPL. He spelled out the details of the tournament including its format, the prize money, franchise revenue system and squad composition rules.
League kick-started with eight franchise teams in 2008- Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers(Now replaced by Sunrisers Hyderabad) and Chennai Super Kings. However 4 other franchise teams joined the league for short duration- Pune Warriors India(2010-2013), Kochi Tuskers Kerala(2010-2012), Gujarat Lions(2015-2017) and Rising Pune Supergiant(2015-2017)
IPL is the 6th most attended league in the world and continues to top the list of top sports leagues in India. It emphasize to bring young Indian talents to fray and also help them financially. Top Indian cricketers like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been the find of the IPL. As league enters its 11th year this year, it promises to be even bigger and better.
