Umpire Nitin Menon was the matter of all the attention when he was ready with his light meter to check the required amount of light which was necessary for the continuation of the play on day 5 of Kanpur test. Menon was seen with his light meter every time after the completion of an over.
Bad light had forced early stumps at Kanpur on four previous days and Indian team was hungry for a win on the last day of the test but the grit of Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel and bad light came in between them. Nitin Menon started inspecting the light when 9 mandatory overs were left in the day and every time he allowed the bowler to bowl, a huge cheer came from the Kanpur crowd. After the completion of the mandatory overs, 9 minutes of play was still left but Menon was not satisfied with the light and the match ended in a draw.
