India’s premier domestic tournament Ranji trophy kickstarted on Monday. Each game of the first round started well on time but the game between defending champions Vidarbha and Andhra Pradesh was delayed due to an unusual reason.
Rain, bad weather or bad light have often halted the play but this time it was a venomous snake who delayed the play from getting started at picturesque stadium of Dr. Gokaraju Liala Gangaaraju ACA cricket ground in Vijaywada. The snake could have been a threat to the players on field but luckily nothing happened and the snake was taken out of the field by the grounds staff. It will end up as one of the bizarre reason for the interventions in cricket.
The heart of the matter
Vidarbha skipper Faiz Fazal won the toss and elected to bowl first against Hanuma Vihari led Andhra Pradesh. As soon as the players took the field, they were accompanied by a unwanted guest in form of a snake on the field.
The stadium is covered by mountains and deep tree cover from all side. This type of habitat is a breeding ground for reptiles like snakes.
