Dinesh Karthik arrived at the crease after an over of the tournament bowled by Mustafiqur Rahman that dismissed Manish Pandey and only gave 1 run. India needed 34 of last 2 overs and it was a big job at hands for the Tamil Nadu batsman, who was accompanied by his struggling statesman Vijay Shankar at non-strikers end. DK started from the word “go” and smacked Rubel Hossain for 22 runs in 19th over, that put India on the doorsteps of victory. With 12 needed of last 6 balls, Shankar earned a boundary by a lucky tap that brought the equation to 5 of last 2 balls. He went for the glory shot but perished in the process, luckily for India batsman crossed the half way mark and brought DK to the strike.
Soumya Sarkar did a fabulous job by restricting Indian batsman to score big in the over but he suddenly lost the plot and served up an overpitched delivery outside off, DK crashed that lofted drive to outside the fence for a six as he overturned the results to give India a famous win over Bangladesh to lift the Nidahas trophy 2018.
“I have been practising these shots – having a strong base and then hitting from there,” Karthik said after the match.
“Happy to be where I’m and thanks to the support staff who have kept on supporting me for the last few months,” he added.
