Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s chances of preparation for the gruelling England test series suffered a setback as he is set to miss the county stint with Surrey following a slipped disc. Kohli’s doctor, a leading orthopaedic surgeon from a Khar hospital, told him that playing county cricket will only worsen the injury and he may have to miss out on Test series in England.
Kohli has played non-stop cricket from last 1 year that included 9 test, 29 ODIs and 9 T20 for the national team and 14 matches in the ongoing IPL season.

Mirror has reported that Kohli visited the Khar Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, where the orthopaedic surgeon and his team informed him about the damage to the spinal nerves, and there was a chance he may have to miss some part of the England tour, beginning July, if the injury worsened. The doctors clarified that Kohli didn’t need surgery at this stage.
“Kohli was not to feature in the historic maiden Test match against Afghanistan next month, and now with this injury, his county stint will not take off either,” a BCCI official said.
This newspaper has learnt that Kohli has communicated to the Surrey County Cricket Club about his unavailability, but a spokesperson from the county said he was not aware of such a development.

However, a top BCCI official, clarified that it is a case of “neck sprain” and not a “slip disc injury” as reported.
“Yes, Virat has had fatigue issues and this is a case of workload management rather than injury management. But it isn’t a case of slip disc. As of now, we will be monitoring his workload,” the senior official told PTI on condition of anonymity as reported by Times of India.
