Virat Kohli on a verge of breaking Viv Richards record.

Virat Kohli nearing Viv Richards record

Virat Kohli is turning on the magic in rainbow country with heap of runs that speaks the greatness of the iconic batsman. The Indian captain has 4 centuries and 2 fifties after 11 matches to his name. He has 871 runs from 14 innings at an average of 85.7 and a strike rate of 82.38. The India skipper has hit 7 sixes and 91 boundaries. The batsman is on a verge of going past the great West Indian batsman Viv Richards record. He is just 129 behind Vivian Richards’ record of scoring 1,000 runs on a single tour, and is 173 runs away from overtaking Richards’ total tally of 1,045 runs that he scored on the tour of England.

West Indian legend Vivian Richards is the only batsman in the history of the game to score 1000 runs on an International tour. Richards achieved the feat in 1976 when he notched 1045 runs in England. While Richards had scored 216 runs in ODIs, he hit 829 in four Test matches.

Kohli on the other hand is nearing the historic feat as he is 129 runs short of what promises to be a bustling record. He has scored 286 runs in the test series and emerged as the highest run getter in the series. Virat continued his run of form in ODIs and piled 558 runs in 6 matches with 3 hundreds and 1 fifty. He scored 27 runs in the 2 T20s. With just 1 T20 on the cards, the historic feat looks difficult to achieve. But considering the current form of the Indian captain, Viv Richards record doesn’t seems to be far away from the reach.

Viv Richards said that he sees a bit of himself in Kohli, but the Indian batsman feels comparisons with the legend are outlandish. “I don’t go to the field thinking I want to fight with someone today. I am in a good headspace where I am contributing to the team. And it is not an argument on the field. It’s been different this time than last time, rather than swearing or bad words, it is just fun. People watching should have some fun as well. My focus is to go out there and perform, as these things don’t bother me,” Kohli had earlier said.

“And it is surreal to think of comparisons. I have always thought that it was tougher for the greats of the game because we have better protective gear today. I can’t think of playing in a cap and Sir Viv always did. He smacked fast bowlers for sixes all over the world and even thinking about it sends chills down your spine,” he added.
