Virat Kohli predicts the first team to score 500 runs in ODI format

Virat Kohli predicts the first team to score 500 runs in ODI format

Gone are those days when England used to be a bowlers paradise and batsman failed to score huge runs in the limited overs format. With the formation of Eoin Morgan’s New England, the pitch curators in the country created flat tracks that leaked runs and became the graveyard of bowlers.

During the time when 300 was a par score in ODI cricket, Australia scored 434 runs against South Africa in 2005 and interestingly, Proteas chased down the target with ease and scored 438 runs which meant that the record of highest score in ODI cricket was broken for two times in the game.

In the recent while, England is the only team which has breached the 400 run mark in ODI cricket. The Eoin Morgan’s team scored 444/3 against Pakistan in 2016 at Nottingham and followed it up with a mammoth score of 481/6 against Australia in 2018 at the same venue. In the away series against West Indies in February 2019, England scored 418/6 against the home side.

Virat Kohli backs England to surpass the 500 run mark

With England showing signs to score 500 runs in ODI cricket, Indian captain Virat Kohli has no doubt that Eoin Morgan and company will reach the magical figure in the world cup.

“I was just going to say it really depends on these guys (England). They seem to be obsessed with getting to 500 before anyone else,” Virat said during the world cup press conference in London.

Virat agreed that the tournament may turn out to be a run fest but the latter part of the tournament may not offer some bigger scores.

“It is going to be a high scoring tournament but back home too I said 260-270 will also be as tough to get in a World Cup as chasing 370-380. I don’t see many high scoring games in the latter stages of the tournament, initially some teams might get on a roll but later on you will see 250 defended as well. That is the kind of pressure World Cup brings,” he added.
