IPL Auction 2022 was halted after auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed from the stage with the table to cause a panic in the auction hall. Hugh, a British citizen was appointed by the BCCI in 2018, replacing auctioneer Richard Madley. Since then, he has been a known face in the players’ auction.
The unfortunate event happened when Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka was attracting huge bids and he allready crossed the 10 crore mark before the auctioneer fell unconsciously from the stage to halt the action. In an unofficial update, it was reported that Hugh was feeling better after the unfortunate event as an early lunch was forced on day 1 of IPL Auction.
