Australian opener Cameron Bancroft has been charged for ball tampering in 3rd Test vs South Africa after being caught red handed using a foreign object to alter the state of the ball before attempting to hide the evidence. Captain Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft, the fielder chosen to carry out the tampering, admitted to cheating after Bancroft was caught on television using a piece of sticky tape to rub dirt into the ball, then trying to hide the tape down his trousers when umpires suspected something was up.
First the camera caught the mischief and then on field umpires caught him redhanded and were having a chat with Bancroft. South African captain Faf du Plessis also saw that on television in the dressing room and signalled his teammates that Bancroft is using some distasteful object to alter the condition of the ball.
Bankroft was using it to shine the ball or roughening up one side with that object and then tried to slip that inside his trouser.
