India avoided the lower order scare yet again to win the first test against Australia by 31 runs and also register their 6th ever test victory in the country. The visitors were looking in a comfortable situation but last four Australian batters had much to offer as they scored close to 100 runs to keep Australia in the game. However, Indian bowlers had the right patience to take the fight against them and not create any situation like Sam Curran did to them in the England test series.
Ashwin kept bowling from one end of the wicket and he finally picked the wicket of Josh Hazlewood to win the test match for India.
There was enormous pressure on the players as well as the team management after the Australian lower order created a chance for themselves to win the test match. Even head coach Ravi Shastri could feel the heat and he confessed it during a post match show.
Ravi Shastri’s cheeky words
Sunil Gavaskar who was the expert in the television show informed Shastri about the hashtag #ChhodnaMat used by Sony Sports network to hype India vs Australia test series. In return Shastri told how Australia’s lower order got him nervous.
“Sach kahe to last mein goti muh mein aa gaye the (To be honest, we almost had balls in our mouth),”Shastri said, leaving the expert in Sony studio laughing and giggling.
Shastri further praised his team for putting up a valiant show to win the first test. He recalled how they lost the first test to England and South Africa by a close margin and felt happy and satisfied with team’s efforts.
