Edgbaston was set to host the first test match between the numero uno India and a mighty looking England. Joe Root won the toss and asked India to bowl first. Indian captain Virat Kohli opted for KL Rahul and R. Ashwin in the playing 11 that draw some criticism on social media. Ashwin has not been successful at away tours and dropping in-form Kuldeep Yadav was a bold decision by Kohli.
England took the defensive approach in the starting overs and Virat Kohli did a MS Dhoni like thing by introducing Ashwin in the 7th over of the game. He gave away just 1 run but it was the 9th over that break the shackles for India when Ashwin struck on the second last bowl. He cleaned bowled a formidable looking Alastair Cook. The ball dipped and draw Cook forward for a drive but it gripped of the surface and hit the off stump to give India the first break through.

Well that’s a mistake
The Edgbaston wicket had something for the spinners and Ashwin made the most of the conditions. I guess both the teams will be kicking themselves for not going with an extra spinner on a dry wicket, which looked as if it was a fast bowlers paradise.
