A depleted South Africa will look to put some competition in the 4th ODI being 3-0 down in the ODI series. However the Proteas have some positives to add in the 4th ODI with the change in jersey colours. They will play in the pink jersey in today’s match. South African team enjoys a great history of playing in the pink strip as they have never lost any of the five matches they played in pink. The South African side also played India on 5th December,2013 in the pink jersey, eventually winning by 144 runs deficit. India was captained by MS Dhoni while AB De Villiers was on charge for the Proteas back then. Why Why South African team wears pink Jersey.
But the question is….. Why South African team wears pink jersey ?
South Africa Cricket celebrate the day as “Pink Day”. Which is celebrated to raise awareness about the breast cancer, and for the benefit of those suffering from the fatal disease. Cricket South Africa will donate all the money to Breast Cancer Clinic at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital. The fans and supporters are also urged to wear pink and various activities also takes place in the stadium itself. The hashtag #PitchUpInPink will be used to get South Africans into the right spirit of the occasion.
The organizers aim to raise funds greater than 1 million Rand. Which is mostly expected to arise from the sale of bracelets designed by David Tlale. Whole South African team will be seen wearing the pink bracelet.
“For the bracelet‚ we selected a weave design which is in line with a lot of current trends in bold colours. That will grasp the attention of anyone that sees you wearing it. This then becomes another conversation piece around the cause and raises the funds needed to make a difference‚” David Tlale said.
Look forward to seeing you guys out there tomorrow and remember to #PitchUpInPink #CancerAwareness @OfficialCSA pic.twitter.com/olWuBMzBcx
