Cricket West Indies has announced the team for the ODI and T20 series against India and surprisingly two big name are missing form the squad. The selectors didn’t pick Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle in the squad following internal reasons.
Chris Gayle who recently appeared for West Indies in limited overs format, made himself unavailable for the selection as he was more focused to play in the ongoing Afghanistan Premier League. Dwayne Bravo on the other hand has not done much in the domestic tournaments and he needs to prove himself to get back to the national squad.
Chris Gayle recently announced his retirement from List A cricket but he will be available for selection for the 2019 world cup schedule in England.
“With the 2020 ICC World T20 two years away and the limited amount of T20 Internationals within the next year, the panel believes at this juncture it is time to invest in the young players that have emerged over the last two years from Windies A and B teams, along with 2018 CPL,” said Courtney Browne, Chairman of the national selection panel.
The return of star players
Selectors have picked superstar players like Kieron Pollard, Darren Bravo and Andre Russell for the T20 series after they impressed one and all in the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League. However, their non-selection in the ODI squad make it an in-experienced bunch.
The five-match ODI series begins on October 21 in Guwahati and will be followed by three T20Is.
Lucknow’s Ekana International stadium will come on the world map as it will be hosting an International match for the first time. The second T20 between India and West Indies will be played at the Shaheed Path based venue in Lucknow.
