Will India-Pakistan match become a weapon in the war against Coronavirus

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar proposed to organize a three-match one-day cricket series between India and Pakistan to raise funds for the fight against the corona virus in the two Asian countries.  The two countries have not played a full series against each other since the 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai by a Pakistan-based terrorist organization. The two rivals squared off in a short T20 and ODI series in India in 2012-13, however they have been regularly playing each other in the Asia Cup and ICC tournaments.

“In this period of crisis, I propose a three-match series between the two countries. For the first time, whatever the outcome of this series will be, no cricket lovers from both the countries will be sad. We will be happy if Virat Kohli scores a century. You will be happy if Babar Azam scores a century. Whatever the outcome of the match, both teams will win,” Shoaib said.

“This match will get a lot of viewers. For the first time both countries will play for each other. Whatever money it gets, it should be divided equally between the two countries for the fight against Corona. At the moment everyone is sitting in the house, they will watch this match. Even if not now, but when the conditions start to improve, then it can be played in Dubai, for this a chartered flight can be arranged,” he added. The Rawalpindi express further said that a cricket series between the two nations will ensure the betterment of relations between the political head of both the countries. Its worth mentioning that the tensions between the two nations build after the Pulwama terrorist attack on 14th February 2019 and later the face off between the two nations in the aerial skirmish after India conducted an aerial strike in the Balakot district of Khyber Pakhtunwa.
