Hima Das(Atheletics)

(PC: AFI)

Competing against the country’s finest 400m runners at the Federation Cup on Tuesday, Das clocked a gold medal effort of 51.97s, and qualified for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Hima is the youngest of five siblings of Jomali and Ronjit Das, a marginal rice farmer. Athletics had never seriously been considered. Neither did her father have the money to spend to nurture her sporting career nor was there even a proper place to train. In 2016, this athlete used to play football in Nagaon District of Assam. Her first love was Football and winning prizes from the game turned the love into Obsession. She started getting 100-200 rupees that helped the cause of supporting her house. However the PE teacher of village was impressed by his quick pace of running. He suggested her to start with Athletics and within one year Hima became the national champion.

  1. In 2017, she won a gold in Chennai Open competing in 200m.
  2. She became the champion in federation cup competing in 400m.

Digitalsporty salutes the determination and will power of Hima Das on womens day 2018
