India will be hopeful of adding just their second world championship medal as Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will be eyeing glory but good competition awaits him in the finals of world athletics championship at Eugene, USA. Like the Olympic qualifications for the final, Chopra needed just one throw to book his place in the finals with a mammoth 88.39m throw to seal the deal and top his group. What is promising is that the Haryana lad is improving with every passing competition and 90m and beyond is just round the corner and it may be breached in the finals.
As the commentator predicted, “he wants one & done” #NeerajChopra does it pretty quickly & with ease before admin’s laptop could wake up 🤣

However, he will face tough competition from Grenada’s Anderson Peters’ who threw a mammoth 89.91m to top his group and stand at numero uno position after the qualifications. Jakub Vadjelch of Czech Republic who finished behind Chopra in group A will also be a tough contender and his best effort of 90.88m came this year at Doha to support his case.
Another Indian in fray was Rohit Yadav who didn’t breach the qualification mark but his best effort of 80.42m was enough to give him a 11th place finish overall and a spot in the finals. Chopra and Yadav will be India’s challenge in the Javelin finals.
In the triple jump qualification, Eldhose Paul became the first Indian to qualify with an effort of 16.68m. He finished sixth in Group A qualification round and 12th overall to make the cut for Sunday’s final.
