MS Dhoni was last seen in the world cup semi final where India lost to New Zealand to bow out of the world cup. Rumours were rife that the veteran will finally hang up his boots but reports suggested that the Ranchi lad didn’t retire on the advise of Virat Kohli.
He made himself unavailable for West Indies limited overs series which gave an opportunity to under firing Rishabh Pant. He was expected to return back for South Africa T20 series but he made himself unavailable for selection. To make it more worse for his fans, he also made himself unavailable for Bangladesh limited overs series.
Rishabh Pant on the other hand has failed to make his presence count. He has not been that prolific for which he is known for especially in IPL. With the ray of low scores, the clock has started ticking for the Delhi lad and the selectors may look to Ishan Kishan or Sanju Samson in the future.
MS Dhoni’s absence is due to the injury
A report in Indian Express states that the back and wrist injury has been troubling the 38-year-old which has sidelined him from the national team. The reports suggests that the veteran of 350 ODIs has been suffering from a back injury since IPL 2019. Digitalsporty confirms that he did struggle with the back injury and was seen rubbing his back on various occasion in IPL finals and some other matches. He missed a game against Mumbai Indians due to this injury.
The BCCI has not given any update on his injury and the reason for not including him in the series. Dhoni may make himself available for the ODI series against West Indies which starts in December, but it will be interesting to see if selectors will give him a place in the team despite knowing that he is not in their future plans.
