WWE has recently signed Olympic champion Gable Steverson who won the gold medal at Tokyo 2020 in Men’s 125 kg wrestling where he edged past Georgian Petriashvili 10-8 in the finals. With this signing, Gable has become the second Olympic champion wrestler after Kurt Angle to sign with WWE.
WWE is also planning to have Gable Stevenson bypass WWE NXT, the development property of the company as they want him to be on the main roster as soon as possible. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio revealed about the same. He stated,
“They are big behind him for a lot of reasons, but it doesn’t mean he’s going to be a success, either. I mean, it’s like he’s going to have the microscope on him, and he’s gonna be up there [on the WWE main roster] too soon, for sure. He’s gonna be in matches too soon as far as to be a good worker because they’re gonna try to capitalize on it although I think he goes full time in May 2022 and, you know at that point they are gonna be grooming him to the top spots, and they signed him to a deal that pretty much wants him there.”
While fans wait for the first match of Gable, WWE is looking forward to book a match between Brock Lesnar and Gable Steverson. According to Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline, a match between Gable Stevenson and Brock Lesnar is already on the radar in WWE and the two heavyweights are expected to compete in the near internet.
“It’s already been teased and talked about that (Brock) Lesnar would eventually wrestle him in a passing-of-the-torch type moment at a WrestleMania.”
It can turn out to be a great match as Lesnar helped Gable in his initial days in wrestling. Lesnar was also an amateur wrestler before he turned pro with wrestling promotions.
