Yonex BG 65 is one of the most preferred badminton strings amongst the badminton community and with the gauge or simply the thickness of 0.70mm it is suitable for beginners or recreational players who are looking for durability and to learn the basics of the game with a very basic string. These types of strings are not best suited for players who are intermediates or professional as the string lacks control, repulsion and most importantly the power. This comes in the category of soft feeling string so the beginners won’t have to be very technical enough to clear the back line easily. This type of string can offer durability and easy clears but when it comes to precise drops, smashes and control, you’ll be disappointed.
Gutting the string at a lower tension will mean that it may last forever if you are consistently hitting the sweet spot or the center spot of the racket. These type of string lose tension early as the material of the string is thick and it starts stretching sooner than later, resulting in loss of tension which degrades the performance.

Will it lose tension
Any basic string with a gauge of 0.70mm tends to lose tension early as the material is thick and it stretches out as you play the shorts. It is one of the best in the segment of defensive strings or thick strings.
What combination should you use
As i earlier said, these strings are tailor made for beginners or defensive players but very serious players will not prefer this string. It wont offer much on the very advanced racket as the factors of control, power, repulsion and hitting sound is the downside of this string. Consider gutting these strings on a even balanced racket which will just do the job for you. Gutting it on a heavy head racket won’t offer you much power and stringing it on a grip side heavy racket won’t even give you good control specifically.
Disadvantage i felt
I was missing my drop shots and the control was not there as the strings are soft and the bouncy effect of the string didn’t give me great control over the shuttle. Hard feelings strings are generally best for optimum level of control. When it came to smashes, it lacked the power to win outright points and it was pretty easy for the opposition player to defend it easily.

Some points to consider

- These strings do not give you pin point precision, like your shuttle won’t travel to the spot where you actually want to hit it reason being the soft feeling strings which will be bouncy when the shuttle will hit it so you have the minimum control. Since these strings are thick so the area of contact on the shuttle will be more giving you less ontrol.
- Smashes won’t be outright winners
- Higher tension doesn’t guarantee you more power in your smashes, it just mean that the sweet spot will be decreased and if you hit that consistently then only you can generate power.
