It was a buzzing environment infront of 78,011 people at the Luzhniki Stadium as the world geared up for the FIFA World cup opener between hosts Russia and Asian giants Saudi Arabia. The crowd was roaring in anticipation of what is to come and it only took 11 minutes to turn their roar into happiness as Yury Gazinsky’s header found the back of the net, as he became the first goal scorer of FIFA World Cup 2018, to give Russia the lead in starting moments of the match. It was a big occasion and Yury also made it big for himself after striking the first goal of his International career.
How it happened?
Russia won a corner in 10th minute and Zhirkov took it. He picked out Alan Dzagoev, but he failed to head it in as Yasser Al-Shahrani cleared the danger for Saudi. The ball went to Aleksandr Golovin, who curved it in. A completely unmarked Yuri Gazinsky fogged high to head it past Saudi keeper Abdullah Al-Mayoof, to become the first goal scorer of FIFA World Cup 2018.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, sitting next to FIFA president Gianni Infantino and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud, gave a priceless reaction, after his team draw the first blood.
